McNicholas are early adopters of new ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards

McNicholas’ management systems have recently been recognised by our external auditors ISOQAR, as amongst the best in our class.

‘The McNicholas Way’ is the name we give to McNicholas’ own Integrated Management System, pulling together processes and procedures from all departments and functions.

The McNicholas Way aim is to secure two results:
• Firstly, to ensure our staff secure the best available guidance by being able to access McNicholas standard processes through an easy to navigate and accessible IT system
• Secondly, to ensure that we do comply with the defined requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001: the international standards for Quality, Environmental and Safety management.

ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 were completely revamped in 2015, the most notable changes being to the structure of the standards - this requiring a significant amount of work for our Safety and Sustainability team to fully reorganise and restructure our existing management systems to suit.

The new requirements place greater emphasis on risk-based thinking and give increased prominence to leadership engagement, whilst our own demands meant we wanted a seamlessly integrated system that was usable by all.

As planned, the hard work to improve ‘The McNicholas Way’ and complement the new standards delivered a great result, and during a routine audit in October 2016, ISOQAR awarded McNicholas an unqualified upgrade to both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards, fully five months ahead of schedule.
Barry McNicholas, CEO, commented “This is a testament to the innovative work that has gone into making ‘The McNicholas Way’ a usable and efficient tool for our workforce and will no doubt continue to pay dividends for us in delivering a first class service to our Customers.”
