A team of 12 cyclists (and 1 support driver) from UKPN, Amec Foster Wheeler, McNicholas and Arcadis completed their 300 mile cycle challenge from London to Amsterdam and back over the weekend of 12th- 15th May, with a grand departure from Kings Cross on the Friday morning.
Despite a heavy downpour and some wet riding, cycling in Holland was a joy; pan flat and cycle lanes separate from the roads, all the way to Amsterdam - although the support vehicle was very much needed with a number of mechanical break downs and eight punctures in total as well as a few bio-mechanicals (aching legs) to contend with!
The team have raised over £3,645 for The Lighthouse Club construction industry charity – who provide support to construction workers who have suffered accident or illness through work. The team members were Mir Baloch, Jason Buddle, Ian Burnell,Doug Cook,Tom Doran,Gary Empson, Rhys Hill, Martin Hunt, Sheldon Pavey, Jonathon Peirce, Gary Pettite, Howard Sanger and Paul Strachan.
Well done to all involved, in particular Tom Doran who organised the whole event and has already starting planning another trip next year (plenty of notice for those that want to start their training).
