The Group Board is responsible for both the stewardship and governance of the company. It sets the company’s strategic aims and values and oversees the executive management and Operational Board. The Group Board is also charged with reporting on the company’s performance, and, in this we feel that we are well placed to comply with the revised requirements of the UK Corporate Governance Code, which come into effect in 2015, to make our annual report fair, balanced and understandable.
McNicholas’ operational leadership team has the breadth of expertise and depth of experience necessary to drive our strategy and deliver profitable performance from our core business operations. Chaired by Barry McNicholas, the Operational Board meets once a month and focuses on safety, performance, people and strategy
Rod has been the Chairman of the McNicholas Holding Company board for 5 years. He has worked in the sector for over 40 years. He is an experienced non-executive having chaired several businesses and has extensive experience working with family owned businesses. He is also Chairman of Mabey Holdings and the Wila Group. Rod has just stepped down from chairing the Construction Youth Trust after 12 years.
Colin is a former CEO of the company and his considerable experience in our business is an important addition to the Holdings Company Board. Colin recently chaired the immigrant counselling and psychotherapy charity icap
Barry leads McNicholas in delivering infrastructure services to the utilities, rail and communications sectors. With over 25 years of industry experience across all of the utility sectors, Barry has always sought to develop long term relationships with his clients, being actively involved in several key Alliance and Partnering contracts. Being a shareholder as well as the company’s CEO, Barry's personal goal is to ensure McNicholas deliver on our commitments to clients.
Graham was appointed Finance Director of McNicholas in 2011. He has considerable experience in the construction and business services sectors having held senior financial positions in Jarvis and with BAA, prior to which he had worked at Grand Metropolitan (now Diageo) and Nabisco.
Steven is the lead director for health, safety, quality and environmental matters, and implementing our strategies on collaboration and sustainability. Formerly managing director of our civil engineering business, his operational experience has taken compliance management to a new level by providing an integrated approach.
Jonathan has over 25 years’ experience in the rail and civil engineering sectors, having previously worked at director level for Fitzpatrick, McAlpine and Birse, and most recently as Rail Service Director for Amey. Jonathan has valuable experience in delivering multi-disciplinary projects and growing businesses in the rail and infrastructure sectors, together with an excellent reputation for service delivery and customer satisfaction.
Gary joined the company in 1993 and was appointed to the board in 2009 as managing director of our Network Services business. Originally trained in civil engineering, he has over 20 years’ industry experience including extensive knowledge of utility framework contracting. He has been instrumental in developing our e-business, back-office and customer care solutions.
Catriona has gained expertise in several generalist HR as well as specialist resourcing and development roles since joining in 2001. She was promoted to Head of HR in 2013 and joined the board in 2013 when she became HR Director. She works closely with other board members to manage all people-based activity from a strategic, developmental and operational perspective. She has a degree in law, a masters degree in human resource management and is also a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Department.
David joined the company in 2013. A forward thinking Quantity Surveyor with over 27 years experience in the Utility, Rail, Air and Infrastructure sectors of the industry. David has previously held senior roles, working for Clients, Consultancy Practices and Contracting organisations. Notable projects include Angel Underground Station Redevelopment, Heathrow Express, Heathrow Terminals 2A & 2B, Evergreen (Chiltern Railways) Improvements and Major Thames Water Projects.
David was appointed to our Operating Board in January 2017.
David joined the company in 2013. An experienced business developer with a strong track record in delivering new projects, he contributes to the creation of the strategy that will deliver new growth and more effective, sustainable organisational development across sectors including defence, aerospace, rail and infrastructure. He previously worked for BAE Systems, Serco, Carillion and Keltbray.
